Unchecked stress releases toxic cortisol that eats away at mind and body and contributes to more than a dozen mental and physical health malaises. Do I have your attention yet?

The most toxic product of stress is cortisol. Cortisol is like good cop bad cop. You want it to show up, promptly, when you really, genuinely need it. But if you keep calling it out for every unimportant trivial little thing, eventually it’s just gonna be the bad cop all the time.

If stress is always elevated, so is cortisol, and if you don’t think that’s much of a problem, let me try to wean you off that notion.

For example, some studies suggest that chronic stress could be claiming more than a hundred thousand lives a year. It’s directly related to 6 of the most common causes of death in America. It could be related to more than 75% of doctor visits.

Which is probably why The American Psychological Association has described stress as a national mental health crisis.

This short video, also part of the Hacking Stress course, explains what stress does to the brain and body. Just in case you need a little nudge.
